Michelham Priory House and Gardens is a historical wedding venue in Hailsham. The Elizabethan barn is set within the 7 acres of medieval land. There is a court yard in front of the barn and private lawns behind.
Wedding Ceremonies
Michelham Priory has a licence for weddings in the Priory Chamber within the tudor house, the Elizabethan Barn and some outdoor options. The Elizabethan Barn can seat up to 130 guests, it has high oak beamed ceilings with fairy lights and windows either side which let in lots of natural light. If you'd like an outdoor ceremony you have a few options including the Apple orchard, in front of the main house or on the lawns behind the barn. Their wedding packages include the use of cross back wooden chairs which you can use for your ceremony. The venue allow the use of bio degradable confetti.
Drinks Reception
The private walled garden behind the barn is the perfect setting for your drinks reception, it's a large outdoor space with some undercover seating just outside the barn. The garden is perfect for lawn games if you wanted some entertainment for your guests. You could have an outdoor bar set up or you can use the one included inside the barn. They don't charge corkage at Michelham Priory so you're able to bring your own alcohol.
Photo Locations at Michelham Priory
You're spolit for choice with locations for your couple photos at Michelham Priory. You have access to the orchard, the lawns surrounding the main house, the wisteria kitchen garden and the walled garden.
Wedding Breakfast
Your wedding breakfast will be held inside the Elizabethan Barn which can seat up to 130 guests. They provide you with wooden chairs and round tables, if you'd like trestle tables you can hire them in. The venue have a list of local caterers for you to choose from to cater your wedding. They don't charge corkage but they can provide a paid bar service if needed. They have a PA system for you to use for speeches.
Top tip: Have your top table near the windows so you have the best light for the photos of your speeches.
Evening Reception
The barn can accommodate up to 175 standing guests. You can have your dance floor down one end of the barn where your band or DJ will set up. The barn has fairy lights inside and there are festoon lights outside in the court yard. The music has to be turned off by 11pm and everyone must leave by 11.30pm.
Parking and Accommodation
There is plenty of parking at the venue. There is no accommodation on site but the venue is close to Polegate, Eastbourne and Lewes where you can find lots of hotels and airbnbs. The venue is in a rural village so if your guests will need taxis at the end of the night they should pre order one.
