The Oak Barn, Frame Farm is a modern rustic wedding venue located in Cranbrook on the East Sussex and Kent Border. It's the perfect venue for outdoorsy couples who want a relaxed wedding day. Hannah and Josh got married there in September so the photos below will show you what the venue looks like at that time of year.
About the venue
The entrance is a lovely drive way down into the venue past the oak barn to the car park, the drive way is a popular place for couple photos as you can see the venue in the background. They have cottages where guests can stay, a large Oak Barn for the ceremony and reception, The Byre which is a smaller inside space for the drinks reception and the Pole Barn which can also be used for the drinks reception and evening buffet.
We used the Pole Barn for the confetti and group shots as it was raining on and off during the day, it's a great space because you get all the natural daylight as it's open on one side whilst being undercover in a rustic barn. Before the ceremony, the guests were gathered in The Byre where there was a Prosecco wall for welcome drinks and a mobile bar just outside. The bride arrived in a vintage yellow ford and hid inside one of the cottages until the ceremony began.
Ceremony in The Oak Barn
For the ceremony the bride and groom stood up on the stage where they read their own vows to each other which had people teary eyed. I would encourage everyone to write their own vows, it makes the ceremony so much more personal. There's a few different places you can have your ceremony at this venue including The Oak Barn, the Pole Barn, The Byre or even outside looking over the fields. It's amazing to have so much choice at one venue. There's also different layouts available inside the Oak Barn, you don't have to be stood up on the stage.
Drinks Reception
After the ceremony the guests headed outside to the open Pole Barn to line up for confetti as it was raining, the bride and groom walked through and got showered in dried flowers. Then the guests had time to hug and congratulate the new Mr and Mrs, this is a part of the day I love as it gives me a chance to get lots of lovely candid photos. They held the drinks reception at the bottom end of the venue in The Byre and Pole Barn. We ended up using the Pole Barn for group shots and couple shots as it proved a great rustic backdrop. They had a mobile bar for the drinks reception which added to the laid back vibe of the wedding. The rain was on and off but there's lots of sheltered areas at this venue so the weather didn't affect the day.
Wedding breakfast
The staff set up the Oak Barn ready for the wedding breakfast. Everyone was called in to take their seats. They had a really cool macrame seating plan and other stationery created by Maple and Rae. They chose round tables for their seating but you can also have long tables. There were four speeches; first the bride and groom done a joint speech which I thought was a lovely idea, then the mother of the bride, and two of the groomsmen. For the wedding breakfast they had a three course meal served by Vine and Dine catering. After dinner everyone headed back outside for some more drinks so the staff could get the room ready for the evening reception.
The venue partner with a few trusted caterers who will provide you with the perfect menu for your wedding. It's a no corkage venue so you can bring your own wine for the tables which is great.
Evening Reception
Whilst the evening guests were arriving I took the couple back off for some more portraits as the sun had come out. We went to the lake and cracked open the bottle of champagne I bought with me, I love doing champagne sprays they're so much fun! In September the sun sets over the back of the venue which is perfect for golden hour photos by the lake and in the fields. Then we walked to the top of the path where you enter the venue and took some photos there before heading back down to the guests. They also wanted some funny group shots with their wedding party which we did by the large light up letters. When it got dark out everyone headed back inside The Oak Barn for the evening reception where the DJ and Photo Booth had set up. The cake cut and first dance took place in The Oak Barn and the hog roast was served in the Pole Barn.
